Marketing Reports: What Kenyan Companies Should Measure

16 October 2026/5 min read/Nataka Inc

A practical reporting framework for Kenyan company teams: separate reach, enquiries, qualified leads, proposals and paid customers, then agree the next decision.

A useful marketing report tells a company what happened, what the evidence means and what decision comes next. For a Kenyan business acquiring customers online, start by separating attention, enquiries, qualified opportunities, proposals and paid customers. A chart of reach alone cannot explain sales; a sales total alone cannot explain which content helped.

Define the outcome before the campaign

Agree whether the work is intended to improve awareness, explain an unfamiliar offer, support a launch or generate enquiries. Set the relevant measures and record a starting point. A brand film and a direct-response campaign may have different primary objectives, even when both contribute to the same business.

Write down what makes an enquiry qualified. That could include company fit, a genuine need, service budget, decision-maker access and timing. Apply the same definition throughout the reporting period. Changing it halfway through can create a misleading improvement.

Use five levels in the report

  1. Delivery: what was produced, approved and published, on which channels and dates?
  2. Attention: how many people were reached, what content was consumed and which messages earned meaningful engagement?
  3. Response: what clicks, form submissions, calls and messages were recorded, and how were duplicates handled?
  4. Sales fit: how many enquiries were reached and verified as suitable, and why were others disqualified?
  5. Commercial progress: what meetings, proposals and paid customers resulted, with what attribution limits?

Show the underlying counts beside rates. “Half our enquiries qualified” means something different for two enquiries and two hundred. Record the date window and the source of each figure so another person can check the comparison.

Keep content costs and media costs visible

Distinguish money spent on creating and managing the campaign from money paid to distribute ads. Explain which costs appear in a cost-per-result calculation. A platform's media-only figure is not the whole cost of acquiring a customer.

When judging commercial value, consider the contribution left after delivering the service, not just the sale's headline revenue. Record actual payment status and the period covered. Avoid extrapolating a long customer lifetime from one newly signed account.

Connect WhatsApp to the record

If buyers contact the company through WhatsApp, agree how the sales team records the enquiry source, company, status and next step. A short campaign marker can help, but it does not capture every referral or forwarded link. Ask how the person heard about the business when the source is unclear.

For form leads, track whether the team reached the person, verified the details and agreed a next action. Silence in one inbox does not prove there was no conversation elsewhere. A simple shared record can be enough if someone owns its accuracy.

End with a decision and an owner

Each review should identify the first weak step and a concrete change to test. Examples include explaining the offer more clearly, adding a missing qualification question, improving a service page or agreeing a better sales response routine. Assign a person and a date to the action.

Keep hypotheses separate from measured results. If one creative attracted more relevant conversations, state the counts and limits before calling it a winner. If search impressions increased, check whether the relevant service pages and enquiries also improved.

Nataka includes a performance review in its published monthly Social Content Engine. A wider digital marketing scope should specify the reporting responsibilities and data access needed. For the acquisition process itself, read our guide to qualified Facebook leads.
